Invalid vote row:
ec initiates no action:
- After all the
controversy over the remarks of Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal
that Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu’s vote could become
invalid for revealing whom he had voted for, no action has been taken
by the Election Commission.
-
The row, for all practical purposes, seems to be a storm in the tea
cup. Mr. Naidu apparently did not violate Section 39 of the Conduct
of Election Rules, 1961 which stipulates that one should maintain
secrecy of vote in the polling station. Mr. Naidu spoke to media 100
metres away from the polling station. Mr. Bhanwar Lal toldThe Hindu
that no action has been initiated by the Commission and the returning
officer also did not send any reports on the alleged violation of
law.
